Who knew West Seattle homes could come with turrets?

Turrets aren’t just for castles. What better way to get a panoramic view?

Lots of people love turrets, not just fans of romance novels or castle adventures. They may be hard to include in a house but they attract attention, and might even provide better views. What better way to get close to a panoramic view? Here’s one in West Seattle for $575,000 that gets to see downtown Seattle’s skyline.

It is impressive how many different styles can fit into 1,830 square feet. The front facade is reminiscent of a Craftsman, but the typically small porch is surrounded by an enormous deck. Step inside and find a sweeping staircase that leads to better views thanks to a second floor living room with mansion-style windows. Out back, tall decks with a hot tub and grill elevate the party while looking out over the rest of the 5,209 square foot lot. Not exactly castle equipment.

And then there’s the turret. It’s shape seems to be incorporated into on alcove in the master bedroom; but it is the top floor where it gets the best views and the decorators had the most fun. The walls are painted as faux bricks leading up to an fanciful astronomical mural. (Stars inside the crescent of the moon are a tad improbable.) It is a room for fun rather than function. Homeowners are allowed to have fun, right?

Houses do have to function, and this one provides three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, with enough room left to fit in an office.

The yellow duckies. Evidently, the owners loved yellow duckies enough for them to be in the kitchen, as tiles in the bath, and as a warning sign in the garage. Maybe they’re why the bear is hiding in the turret.
